"O mio Babbino Caro" is Carol Comune's solo piano arrangement of Giacomo Puccini's poignant song from his opera, Gianni Schicchi. Carol recorded this beautiful piece for her 2018 album, Classically Yours. In addition to composing, recording and performing, Carol is a faculty member at Westminster Conservatory of Music Honors Music Program and has maintained active private piano studios since 1973.
Carol Comune's arrangement of this famous piece is short (2 pages), but it's not simple. With flowing sixteenth notes on both hands throughout, the right hand plays two voices - the gentle melody along with a colorful accompaniment. I would place this piece at a late-intermediate/early-advanced playing level. It is arranged in the key of C with the melody clearly indicated. Dynamics and expression are also clearly marked, as are pedal markings where they are needed. It's a beautiful and very expressive arrangement that I can recommend for advancing students and pianists at any age.
