Once Upon a Time

This movement sets the stage for what lies ahead in the classic fairy tale, Sleeping Beauty. The opening fanfare, with a rhythmical set of chords, is symbolic of the magnificent royal palace. The more lyrical relaxed section that follows expands both melodically and harmonically as it begins to tell this famous story. It must be played with great sensitivity and love.

Despite all the riches in the world the King and Queen of the Kingdom yearn only to have a child of their own. One day their dream comes true. To celebrate this great event the King and Queen hosts a grand ball to which they invite the entire kingdom.

At this point the music picks up once again and culminates in a triumphant fanfare that prepares the kingdom for this important event!
